As the days shorten and weather turns colder, here’s a list of key things to do in your garden this month:
- Rake up fallen leaves and pile them up to make leaf mold
- Trim evergreen hedges, like yew.
- Plant spring bulbs, like tulips and dafs.
- Clear up the garden of debris.
- Prune tall shrubs and climbing roses.
- Plant new perennials and divide older ones.
- Plant new climbers, like clematis.
- Cut down the dying tops of perennial vegetables
- Dig over empty areas of soil
- Keep an eye out for pests and diseases. Diseased material can be burned or binned, but don’t compost it.
- Tidy ponds and remove pumps for winter
